Information About ITEA

What is ITEA?

Purpose

The International Test and Evaluation Association (ITEA), headquartered in the United States and incorporated in the District of Columbia in 1980, is a not-for-profit professional organisation dedicated to furthering the professional and technical interests of the test and evaluation community. World-wide, ITEA is the leading association for professionals in the field of test and evaluation.

Educational Activities

ITEA engages in a variety of educational activities. The association sponsors symposia, seminars, and workshops; publishes a quarterly Journal of Test and Evaluation and supports scholarships at several universities. In addition, regional chapters of ITEA provide members with diverse programs designed to expand their knowledge of the field, and to promote professional dialogue and consistency of understanding.

Code of Ethics

The ITEA Board of Directors has formally adopted a code of ethics that commits each member to uncompromised professionalism and pursuit of the highest standards of business and personal conduct.

Awards Program

ITEA maintains an annual awards program to recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of test and evaluation. Awards are given for distinguished service; for professional achievement in test and evaluation engineering, technology, or management; for special accomplishments in test and evaluation education; and for major contributions to the body of test and evaluation literature. As well, an Outstanding Chapter award is made to recognise the ITEA Chapter which has made the most progress towards its own improvement and to the betterment of ITEA as a whole. The Southern Cross Chapter won the best Chapter award in 1992!

Management

ITEA activities are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of eleven members, selected from industry, government, and academia. Board members are elected by the membership for a period of three years. They receive no compensation for their services. A general membership meeting takes place each year in conjunction with the annual symposium.

Membership

Benefits of Membership

ITEA offers persons currently working or planning to work in test and evaluation in the industrial, government or academic sectors, the opportunity to exchange ideas with professionals having similar interests. An ITEA membership is an excellent way to broaden one's knowledge of test and evaluation, keep abreast of state-of-the-arttechnology, increase one's awareness of emerging trends, and expand professional contacts.

A not-for-profit association, ITEA is funded by modest returns from educational workshops and symposia, advertising revenue, and individual and corporate membership dues. Individual membership includes a one-year subscription to The ITEA Journal of Test and Evaluation and discounted fees at ITEA-sponsored workshops and symposia.

Corporate membership entitles a company to three individual memberships. Corporate members receive discounted rates for Journal advertising and symposia/workshop exhibits. Each issue of the Journal features a corporate news section to publicise corporate member activities. A directory of corporate members and their capabilities is published annually.

Membership Fees

Annual membership fees are US$40 for individuals and US$20 for full-time students. Overseas members add US$20 for postage. Corporate membership fees are US$600 annually.

Southern Cross Chapter

In October 1991 the ITEA Board of Directors unanimously approved the establishment of the Southern Cross Chapter as the association's twenty-sixth chapter in Edinburgh South Australia . The chapter has over 60 members throughout the Southern Hemisphere with representation from Australia, New Zealand and recently South Africa. The Southern Cross Chapter was awarded the ITEA Outstanding Chapter award in 1992 for its significant contribution to the field of Test and Evaluation.

A number of T&E initiatives have been fostered by the Southern Cross Chapter. The chapter's Education Committee has obtained agreement from the National Engineering Education Council to include T&E education as a regular agenda item in the meetings of the council. The chapter was also instrumental in the development of curriculum for graduate studies in T&E at the University of South Australia and for establishment of the Australian Centre for Test and Evaluation.

The Southern Cross Chapter has also spearheaded groundbreaking conferences in T&E. In March 1992 the chapter coordinated a University of South Australia sponsored T&E Seminar titled "T&E Issues in Australia". Subjects covered were:

The Southern Cross Chapter also was the co-chair for the highly successful Australian Instrumentation and Measurement Conference (AIM-TEC 94) in April 1994. This was the first time a conference with a T&E focus was held in the Southern Hemisphere. The conference keynote speaker was Admiral Richard Truly (retired), director of Georgia Tech Research Institute, who drew on his experience as an astronaut, test pilot, and NASA administrator to highlight the role modeling and simulation plays in reducing risks in highly complex systems. The conference showcased a variety of T&E perspective's and technology developments throughout the world.

The 1994 Conference was followed by successful conferences in 1995 and 1996. The 1996 Conference marked the first time the Chapter initiated a T&E confernce outside of its home base in Adelaide. The highly successful conference was held in Canberra, and was opened by the Honourable Mrs Bronwyn Bishop Australian Minister for Defence Industry, Science and Personnel.

The Southern Cross Chapter continues to be a leader in T&E initiatives in the Southern Hemisphere and around the world. Click here for a list of upcoming chapter events.
